Bitcoin’s remarkable 129% year-to-date (YTD) gain has captured global attention, highlighting its position as a leading digital asset. This surge comes seven months after the April 2024 halving event, a key milestone in Bitcoin's supply dynamics, coupled with favorable market sentiment following the 2024 United States Presidential election.
November 2024 was a standout month for Bitcoin, with the cryptocurrency gaining 37% according to data from ICO Analytics. While impressive, this performance is overshadowed by November records in other years, including 459% in 2013, 54% in 2017, and 42% in 2020. Historically, Bitcoin has followed a pattern where its price steadily climbs roughly six months after each halving event. This trend appears to be repeating, aligning with predictions from past halving cycles.
Bitcoin's price briefly crossed $99,000 on November 22 before consolidating between $96,000 and $98,000. Futures contracts on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) even touched $100,200, fueling speculation of a spot price rally to the same level. Analysts consider $100,000 a crucial psychological threshold, with some forecasting a peak as high as $110,000 by January 2025.
Despite Bitcoin's impressive growth, its dominance in the crypto market has dropped to 56.1%, signaling a shift as investors explore opportunities in altcoins. This shift suggests the beginning of an altcoin season, where alternative cryptocurrencies gain traction.
Experts like Raoul Pal and Samson Mow envision even greater milestones for Bitcoin. Pal predicts a peak price in late 2025, while Mow foresees the emergence of the "Omega Candle," a rapid price surge potentially pushing Bitcoin beyond $1 million per coin. This dramatic rise, if it occurs, could be driven by increased demand from institutions, governments, and retail investors racing to acquire Bitcoin.
With less than 2.5 million Bitcoin available on exchanges, scarcity continues to fuel demand. As the world watches Bitcoin’s journey toward $100,000 and beyond, the cryptocurrency’s performance underscores its growing relevance in the global financial landscape.
