The cryptocurrency market has witnessed a significant shift in Ethereum (ETH) holdings, with whale wallets now controlling 57% of the total supply. On-chain analytics platform Santiment revealed that 104 whale wallets, each holding more than 100,000 ETH, collectively possess assets worth approximately $333 billion. This marks the highest concentration of Ether holdings among large wallets in the asset’s history and could signal a bullish long-term trend.
While whale wallets are amassing record amounts of Ethereum, smaller wallet categories are experiencing declines. Wallets holding between 10 and 100,000 ETH have dropped to 33.46% of the total supply, their lowest point ever. Similarly, wallets holding less than 100 ETH account for just 9.19% of the supply, a nearly four-year low.
Despite the reduced presence of smaller investors, the increasing dominance of whales is viewed as a positive indicator, especially as these major stakeholders continue accumulating. Santiment noted that Ethereum’s position as a 9-year-old asset, with a growing share held by prominent investors, underscores its potential for long-term value.
In addition to whale activity, Ethereum is seeing a rise in adoption. In December, an average of 130,200 new Ethereum wallet addresses were created daily, the highest in eight months. This surge in adoption coincides with ETH’s price recovery above the $4,000 mark, for the first time since March.
Currently trading at $4,007, Ethereum remains 17% below its all-time high of $4,891, achieved in November 2021. However, some analysts predict that ETH could surpass its previous peak by the first quarter 2025, driven by ongoing accumulation and market optimism.
Ethereum’s growth is part of a larger bullish narrative in the crypto market. Bitcoin recently achieved a record high of $107,800, further fueling positive sentiment. Meanwhile, altcoins like Vanachains (VANA) and Moca Networks (MOCA) are gaining attention due to major exchange listings and significant price rallies.
As Ethereum whales strengthen their hold and adoption continues to grow, the asset’s outlook remains promising, reinforcing its status as a key player in the evolving cryptocurrency market.
