Bloomberg's ETF expert Eric Balchunas predicts that the Ethereum ETF might launch on July 18. The SEC recently made S-1 amendments, requiring companies to update their paperwork and apply again. Balchunas noticed that the changes made by asset managers to their Ethereum ETF filings were minor.
VanEck started this week by updating its registration for an Ethereum ETF, now called The VanEck Ethereum Trust. 21Shares also submitted a fresh registration for its Ethereum ETFs. Grayscale updated their filings too, for both their large Grayscale Ethereum Trust and a smaller version. Franklin Templeton, Fidelity, and BlackRock also updated their filings. None of these filings mentioned the fees for their ETFs. Balchunas mentioned that the SEC hasn't asked for fee details yet, so more updates are likely before the launch.
VanEck eliminated specific regulatory language concerning how Ethereum withdrawals would be managed by their custodian. They made other small changes to comply with SEC rules about crypto markets. These changes reflect SEC Chair Gary Gensler's worries about how safe it is for investors to use crypto exchanges, and what that means for laws about securities. 21Shares added information to their filing about the SEC's rules and other small details.
Grayscale's updated filing for their smaller Ethereum ETF clarified that none of the Ethereum in it would be used for staking. None of the ETF applications mention staking, and some have already taken out any mention of it.
