A mysterious investor has turned a $10,000 investment into an astonishing $2.5 billion by holding over 10% of the Shiba Inu (SHIB) token supply. On-chain data shows this significant holder has questioned SHIB’s token distribution and its impact on the market.
Blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps revealed that between August and October 2020, the investor purchased 103 trillion SHIB tokens for 38 Ethereum (ETH), worth $10,000 at the time. Those tokens have now skyrocketed in value to over $2.5 billion, marking an incredible 250,000-fold return on investment.
This unidentified whale, controlling SHIB through 150 wallets, has not sold any of the holdings despite their value peaking above $5 billion at one point. Analysts describe this as potentially the greatest crypto trade in history.
Such concentrated holdings raise concerns about market stability. If the whale decides to sell a substantial amount of tokens, it could create significant downward pressure on SHIB’s price. Whales with large holdings often have the power to influence a cryptocurrency’s price trends dramatically.
Year-to-date, Shiba Inu has risen by over 134%, with a 27% gain in the past month. While it has underperformed other popular meme coins like Dogecoin, some analysts believe SHIB could be the “sleeping giant” of this bull cycle. Technical analysis suggests a bullish pattern called the “cup-and-handle” is forming, which may lead to a breakout and further price gains.
Shiba Inu has lagged behind its main rival, Dogecoin, partly due to Elon Musk’s frequent endorsements of DOGE. However, SHIB could benefit from a capital rotation as it appears oversold compared to DOGE. TradingView data shows SHIB’s relative strength index (RSI) is at 14.7, suggesting a possible rebound.
Despite holding a massive share of SHIB tokens, the investor’s decision not to sell signals confidence in the token’s future growth. Market watchers believe Shiba Inu could still have significant potential as interest in meme coins grows.
As Shiba Inu builds momentum, investors will keep a close eye on its price movements and the whale’s next moves.
